Nelson Institute Announces 2026 Alumni Award Winners

This isn’t their first time winning an award, and it certainly won’t be their last. Meet the Nelson Institute’s 2026 Alumni Award Winners.

If you look closely, you can find Nelson Institute alumni working in nearly every field and sector you can think of. They work for governments, businesses, nonprofits, research institutions, and everywhere in between, bringing environmental knowledge directly into the decisions that affect landscapes and communities around the world. Their impact shows up in policy rooms and boardrooms, in field stations and classrooms, and just as often in local organizations and volunteer efforts close to home. Many continue to give their time and expertise beyond their professional roles, carrying forward the institute’s long-standing commitment to learning in service of the public good.

Alumni Awards 2026Each year, the Nelson Institute recognizes a select group of alumni whose work reflects this spirit of impact and connection to the Wisconsin Idea. Since the awards program began in 2014, more than 50 alumni have been honored through two distinctions: the Rising Star Alumni Award, celebrating early-career achievements, and the Distinguished Alumni Award, recognizing sustained leadership and impact over time.

Honorees are celebrated each fall at Rendezvous on the Terrace, held this year on September 25. We look forward to gathering the community to recognize the 2026 cohort and the many ways they are putting environmental knowledge into action.
