LTE – Forestry Invasive Plant Financial Specialist

This position works closely with the Forestry Invasive Plant Program Coordinator to administer the Weed Management Area – Private Forest Grant Program (WMA-PFGP) and invasive plant survey and control contracts across the state. The Financial Specialist reviews grant applications and project proposals, administers contracts for survey and control projects, tracks budgets, and collaborates with DNR staff and partners to achieve desired project outcomes. This position routinely interacts with non-profit organizations, private contractors, state and private property managers and landowners.

The Wisconsin DNR would like to hire this position in conjunction with the LTE – Forestry Invasive Plant Program Specialist position. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for both positions.

40% – Grant administration for WMA-PFGP including review of grant applications for completeness and eligibility, communications with grant applicants and recipients on paperwork and project details, data entry of grant details, verification of grant work, coordination of grant reimbursements, tracking of funding and reporting.

40% – Contract administration for invasive plant survey and control projects on DNR managed forested lands across the state. Includes field work to verify invasive plant populations, project details, and contract accomplishments.

10% – Report on grant and project outcomes via press releases, newsletter articles, annual reports and other media.

10% – Provide plant identification and technical knowledge of biology, survey and management of invasive plants to contractors and partners.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
– Excellent communication and organizational skills
– Working knowledge of invasive plant biology, prevention, management, inventory and monitoring; including plant identification skills
– Possess or willing to obtain DATCP pesticide applicator certification
– Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
– Physical ability to work indoors in an office setting and outdoors conducting field work in all seasons in potentially inclement weather conditions
– Must possess a valid driver’s license or be able to provide your own transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Working knowledge of GIS and mapping software
– Work experience administering invasive plant survey and control projects
– Work experience coordinating projects with multiple partners
