Water Resources Planning Intern

Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission

The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (“Commission”), the nationally regarded regional planning agency for the seven county greater Milwaukee area, and the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the five urbanized areas within southeastern Wisconsin, is seeking applicants for a summer Water Resources Planning Intern.

The Commission is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our diverse team of planners, engineers, and specialists focused on addressing issues that transcend the political boundaries and fiscal capabilities of individual communities. The successful individual will be part of an interdisciplinary team conducting aquatic field surveys, digitizing historical water quality and botanical records, and assisting with lake planning and reporting efforts.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist with aquatic plant surveys, environmental assessments, and preparing herbarium specimens
  • Digitize historical water quality and botanical records
  • Support lake plan development by mapping and graphing water quality and botanical data
  • Develop field survey forms and maps using ArcGIS Field Maps or similar applications
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather, be comfortable on a boat, and carry field equipment

Core Requirements

  • In pursuit of or with a Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, or related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software (particularly Word and Excel)
  • Proficiency with ESRI applications (particularly ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Field Maps) preferred
