Nelson Institute Dean Paul Robbins has been invited to give a special welcome at the free virtual event, Sacred Wisdom, Sacred Earth, August 9-11, 2021. Led by the Loka Initiative and the International Mayan League, this convening will center on Indigenous wisdom and leadership with a special focus on sustenance including five panels on water, food, medicine, sovereignty and spirit. The event will feature a range of speakers including:
- Gary Besaw, Director of Agriculture for the Menominee Indian Tribe and Loka Advisor
- Aaron Bird Bear, Director of Tribal Relations, UW-M
- Mariaelena Huambachano, Syracuse University – American Indian Studies
- Kyle Whyte, University of Michigan – Environment and Sustainability
- Janice Rice, Ho-Chunk Elder and Loka Advisor
