The Associate Director at the Wisconsin Forestry Center plays a pivotal role in advancing the success and sustainability of the state’s forest industry. This leadership position is responsible for developing, supervising, and delivering high-quality outreach, training, and research programs tailored to the evolving needs of forestry professionals, landowners, and stakeholders.
Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, the Associate Director will identify industry needs and implement both short- and long-term plans that support workforce development, innovation, and best practices across the sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead outreach and training programs in alignment with forest industry needs.
- Supervise and support outreach staff to ensure effective delivery of initiatives.
- Collaborate with state agencies, academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and community partners.
- Create strategic plans and policies for new and existing programs.
- Write and manage grant proposals to support program funding.
- Oversee program budgets, including planning, monitoring, and reporting.
- Support applied research efforts that contribute to forestry education and policy.
Summary of Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in forestry, wildlife, natural resources, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in natural resources program or project management.
- Strong track record in building partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Expertise in developing, leading, and evaluating natural resource outreach programs.
- Experience in budgeting and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated success in securing grants or other funding.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Preferred:
- Supervisory experience with strong leadership and delegation skills.
- Knowledge of the forest industry.
- Experience with strategic planning and marketing for outreach and education programs.
