Weston Roundtable – Dane County’s Response to the Climate Crisis: The Art of the Possible

Speaker: Joe Parisi, Former Dane County Executive

The climate crisis is the ultimate bad news/good news scenario. The bad news is obvious – our planet is literally on fire and underwater due to the impacts of climate change, and our children face a potentially terrifying future if we don’t fix this now. The good news is we know how to fix it. It’s estimated that current technology and know-how can provide 75 to 85 percent of the solution. The rest will depend on innovation and research currently underway. But the solutions are not going to implement themselves; that’s on us. This talk will take you through Dane County government’s journey to becoming one of the most sustainably run government organizations in the nation, and what others can learn from their journey.

The Weston Roundtable is made possible by a generous donation from Roy F. Weston, a highly accomplished UW-Madison alumnus. Designed to promote a robust understanding of sustainability science, engineering, and policy, these interactive lectures are co-sponsored by the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE), the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Office of Sustainability.
