CHE Environmental Colloquium – Interdisciplinary Education in the Garden
Speaker: Reba Luiken, Director, Allen Centennial Garden, UW–Madison
Allen Centennial Garden serves as an outdoor classroom for UW–Madison students, and in the fall of 2022, this meant courses from over 16 different programs or departments visited the garden. Students from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction used the garden to deepen their learning about multicultural education. School of Pharmacy students stopped by for a tour of psychedelic plants. Those from textiles in the School of Human Ecology created fabrics from images taken in the garden. In each case, Allen Centennial Garden staff worked with the course instructor to create a learning experience that connected with their learning goals in a real-world situation (and we could work with you too!).
