Course Description

In this course, we review the physical, institutional, and socioeconomic dimensions of environmental problems to develop more effective and equitable solutions. We delve into major debates in conservation — e.g., should public lands be used for green energy infrastructure? Why is it so important to engage local communities in protecting tropical forests?

Case material will come from around the world with special emphasis on the Global South. We’ll cover many issues, from elephants to environmental justice, but place special emphasis on biodiversity loss and climate change.
