We are hiring an entry level Invasive Species Technician to conduct monitoring and land management activities at multiple stream and wetland ecological restoration sites throughout Indiana. The position will be based in our Indianapolis, IN office. Travel throughout the state with multiple overnights is required for this position. Job duties include vegetation restoration, stream and wetland survey and monitoring, invasive species management, data collection and report writing. The position will likely be engaged with our drone conservation specialty services business line. This is a full-time, seasonal position with anticipated 40+ hours/week beginning immediately and ending October 31st.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Other
KCI is seeking an Invasive Species Technician to join our Natural Resources team based in our Indianapolis, Indiana office.
- Knowledge of invasive species treatment techniques including chemical and mechanical means.
- Ability to identify Midwest native and invasive species.
- Ability to hike off-trail through dense brush.
- Strong navigational skills to locate key features within the restoration sites is ideal.
- A rigorous work ethic, organizational ability, problem-solving approach, strong communication, documentation, and time management skills are required for this position.
The ideal candidate will be able to work on a team, maintain attention to detail, accurately document activities, and work with minimal guidance at times.
Degrees / License
- BS in Biology, Conservation, Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Forestry or equivalent.
- Current Indiana (or surrounding reciprocal state) herbicide applicator license or ability to obtain license.
- Current driver’s license and experience driving long distances.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate (sUAS) is a plus.

- Ability to work in a team environment with individuals in other geographies is a requirement of this opportunity.
- Overnight travel (typically Monday through Thursday) is the normal work schedule.
- Must be able to lift weights up to 50lbs, wear personal protective equipment, and be familiar with field equipment operation.
- This is a field-based position, and the successful applicant will be exposed to various weather, environmental conditions, and outdoor hazards including heat and thorny brush.
- Pre-employment drug testing is required as a condition of employment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work Environment
The work environment for this position is primarily outdoors at active construction sites, with occasional office work to complete reports and administrative tasks.
- Noise Level: The office environment is typically quiet to moderate, while field visits may expose the intern to moderate to loud noise levels, especially in active construction areas.
- Work Sites: During site visits, the employee may be exposed to various outdoor conditions, including weather, uneven terrain, and active construction environments. KCI will provide necessary safety equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety vests, gloves, and ear protection, which must be worn as required. Employees are responsible for supplying their own protective footwear and appropriate attire for the assigned tasks.

- Mobility: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and move across uneven terrain for extended periods. Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and crouching may be required to inspect construction work and materials.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers is necessary for handling tools, measuring equipment, and documentation, as well as operating computers for reporting purposes.
- Lifting Requirements: The employee may occasionally need to lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 lbs., including materials, tools, or equipment related to inspections.
- Visual and Auditory Requirements: The employee must be able to observe construction activities, interpret plans, read specifications, and ensure compliance with safety standards. Clear communication with inspectors, contractors, and construction workers is essential, often in high-noise environments.
- Travel: Daily travel to construction sites is required. The employee may also need to transport inspection equipment and documents to various job locations.
