CPEP Seminar – Navigating Brazil’s Cattle Supply Chain to Help Save the Amazon

Speaker: Holly Gibbs, Professor, Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, UW–Madison

Supply chain governance (SCG) is an increasingly important approach to manage environmental protection and human rights in agricultural systems across the tropics. Brazil’s Zero-Deforestation Cattle Agreements are one of the longest-standing examples of SCG but monitoring limitations have reduced their conservation impacts.

In this talk, Gibbs will discuss her work linking more than 30,000,000 animal transit records with property boundaries from more than 200,000 properties to map the flow of cattle and deforestation across the Amazon in pursuit of solutions.
