Photos: Nelson Institute Earth Day Conference, 'Hard Science, Tough Choices’

April 24, 2015

Nearly 1,500 guests gathered at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center on April 20, 2015, to celebrate Earth Day and tackle some tough choices about the environmental challenges facing our rapidly changing planet.

How can we build consensus around climate change, energy, transportation, water quality, food security and other critical issues? What is the proper role of science and information in these efforts? Attendees at the Ninth Annual Nelson Institute Earth Day Conference examined these questions and explored the latest science, perspectives and possibilities through a day of learning and discussion.

Renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson ended the day with a rousing keynote address, arguing that science provides our most successful means of decoding and protecting nature.
