Alison Duff, a Ph.D. candidate in Environment and Resources, has been awarded the Dickie Family Sauk County Educational Fellowship for the 2012-2013 academic year and following summer.

The Dickie Fellowship was created in 1995 from the estate of Ruth Stathearn Dickie. This fellowship is awarded to graduate students enrolled in sciences, mathematics or engineering studies whose residence at the time of matriculation at UW-Madison is in Sauk County, Wis. Preference is given to returning adult students.
Duff, who earned a master’s degree in Land Resources (’06), has worked as a restoration ecologist for the International Crane Foundation and, at present, the Wisconsin Healthy Grown Eco-Potato Program. She is also actively involved in conservation issues in her community, serving on the board of directors of the Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance.
Duff’s doctoral research focuses on opportunities for conservation on private agricultural lands. She plans to evaluate if and how a program such as Healthy Grown Eco-Potato can have a measurable impact on biodiversity and ecosystem services, and how this model might apply to conventional agricultural systems in other regions and farming systems.
