Zach Schuster, a doctoral candidate in the Nelson Institute's Environment and Resources program, is investigating how groundwater cools streams and how air temperature affects water temperature in Wisconsin's Driftless Area. At stake could be the future of the state’s best trout fishery.
“Trout as a species really like cold water and that is one reason why the Driftless Area is such a destination for anglers from across the Midwest,” says Schuster. “We are hoping that our work will contribute to adaptation efforts that are underway throughout the region to help protect these valuable trout stream resources.”
