About Jessie

I work as a community-based educator and researcher with Native Nations. I serve as the co-chair for the Native Nations_UW Working Group at University of Wisconsin- Madison.

In 2017, we worked with the Native Nations in Wisconsin to draft the Native Nations_UW Strategic Plan. Our goal is to developĀ  effective and respectful partnerships between three UW’s (UW-Madison, Extension , and Colleges) and the Native Nations in Wisconsin.

Priority areas that I work in are :

  • environmental stewardship and conservation
  • higher education pathways into natural resource careers for Tribal young adults
  • curriculumĀ  design that is centered around Indigenous perspectives

For the Indigenous Arts & Sciences Program at the Earth Partnership, I am a researcher and outreach specialist. Our current project, funded by the National Science Foundation, is an investigation of Indigenous STEM education. Our project partners include four Tribes in Wisconsin — Bad River, Lac du Flambeau, and Red Cliff Bands of Lake Superior Chippewa and the Ho-Chunk Nation. As a outreach specialist, I team teach summer institutes that connect STEM and Native Science in curricula for Tribal youth, and teachers that serve Tribal communities.
