Analyzing climate change and threats to biodiversity in the tropical Andes
A study led by Dr. Jack Williams (Geography) shows how climate change might impact the distribution of plants and animals across the planet. Dr. Williams produced a map of future novel and disappearing climates in the Tropical Andes, based on downscaling the IPCC 21st century climate scenarios.
Using Dr. Williams' research findings, fellow geographer Dr. Mark Harrower (Geography) and UW Geography graduate students, Benjamin Coakley and Daniel Huffman, produced the film below, highlighting the importance of ecosystem services to human livelihoods and welfare.
This animated map was presented at the 2008 IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona.
