LTE – Forestry Invasive Plant Program Specialist

This position works closely with the Forestry Invasive Plant Program Coordinator to prevent the spread of invasive plants in the forests of Wisconsin. The position will collaborate with DNR staff and external partners to survey for and manage invasive plants across the state. In addition, the Plant Pest and Disease Specialist – Senior works with partner organizations to reduce the introduction and spread of invasive plants through forestry practices and education and outreach. The work will be performed both indoors and outdoors in all seasons and sometimes during inclement weather. Note that there may be some overnight travel required.

The Wisconsin DNR would like to hire this position in conjunction with the LTE – Forestry Invasive Plant Financial Specialist position. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for both positions.

50% – Develop survey protocols and management strategies to inventory and control invasive plants on DNR managed state forests and other lands. Work closely with property and habitat managers, Cooperative Invasive Species Management Associations (CISMAs) and contractors to implement the surveys and control projects.

25% – Analyze, map and report survey and control project outcomes in technical reports.

25% – Promote the prevention and control of invasive plants through educational materials, newsletter articles, and presentations.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
– Excellent communication and organizational skills
– Working knowledge of invasive plant biology, prevention, management, inventory and monitoring; including plant identification skills
– Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
– Possess or willing to obtain DATCP pesticide applicator certification
– Physical ability to work indoors in an office setting and outdoors conducting field work in all seasons
– Must possess a valid driver’s license or be able to provide your own transportation. Some overnight travel will be required.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Working knowledge of GIS and mapping software
– Work experience surveying and managing invasive plants
– Work experience coordinating projects with multiple partners
