Position 1: Wastewater Engineer – Trainee
This position will review sanitary sewer extensions throughout the state, ensuring that all new sewers meet accepted engineering practices and design standards, as well as conform with regional plans for sewerage systems. In this work, they will interface with consulting engineers, municipal engineers and officials, and regional planning commissions to work through problematic aspects of designs and move projects toward approvable states. This position also has the opportunity to shadow more experienced engineers and take on reviews of municipal wastewater treatment plants, as time and experience permit.
Position 2: Wastewater Specialist
This position will review wastewater holding tanks throughout the state, ensuring that all new tanks meet accepted engineering practices and design standards and that plans for waste disposal are carried out in a manner protective of the environment. As with the Wastewater Engineer-Trainee position, this position will have the opportunity to interface with consultants, and will also shadow more experienced engineers and take on reviews of sewers and municipal wastewater treatment plants, as time and experience permit.
The two positions will be based in DNR headquarters, just off the capitol square in downtown Madison. There is potential for occasional remote work if needed, although some in-office work will be important for training and mentoring from experienced staff. One individual may hold both positions for full-time employment, or they may be split amongst two individuals for part-time work. Current students or graduates are encouraged to apply.
