The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE – Environmental Integration Specialist located at our central office in Madison, Wisconsin.

This LTE – Environmental Integration Specialist appointment is comprised of two 20-hour positions for an expected work schedule of 40 hours per week. See below for more information on the positions.

Position Summary

This position is in the Bureau of Environmental Analysis and Sustainability (EAS). The position is responsible for the clerical, technical, and environmental analysis aspects of hydropower, transportation, and mining projects. In addition, this position will support the FERC Liaison, Department Transportation Policy Coordinators, and Mining Office staff. The position will also serve on Department teams on complex and often controversial projects that are located throughout the state.

This position will routinely coordinate with Integration Services Section staff, the regional Environmental Analysis staff, local government officials, external stakeholders, and other department experts as needed. This position requires routine contact with various units of state and federal government, professional consultants, contractors, and the public.

40% Assist the FERC Liaison on clerical, technical, and environmental analysis aspects of hydropower projects.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding water resource impacts associated with hydropower projects.
  • Create, process, and maintain records associated with hydropower projects.
  • Communicate accurate and timely updates to ISS Chief.

40%  Assist the Mining Office staff on clerical, technical, and environmental analysis aspects of energy projects.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding mining projects.
  • Create, process, and maintain records associated with mining projects.
  • Communicate accurate and timely updates to ISS Chief.

10% Assist the Transportation Policy Coordinators on clerical, technical, and environmental analysis aspects of NR 150 and hydropower projects.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding transportation projects.
  • Create, process, and maintain records associated with transportation projects.
  • Communicate accurate and timely updates to ISS Chief.

10% Other duties as assigned to support the FERC Liaison, Mining Office, and Transportation Policy Coordinators.

 

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period.

Qualifications

Required

  •  Ability to develop and maintain proper records and files that meet legal and statutory requirements.
  • Knowledge of biological and ecological principles.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers including GIS, word processing, email, and statistical work.
  • Skill in technical writing and written communication including preparation of grammatically accurate letters, inspection reports and resource evaluations.
  • Ability to work well independently to meet critical organizational/program goals.

Preferred

  • Skill in collaboration and communication including customer service, team action, problem-solving, and consensus building and the ability to apply them effectively.
  • Knowledge of best management practices for construction projects.
  • Ability to work with internal and external teams to effectively reach understandings and agreements.
