LTE – Forestry Specialist (Statewide)

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE – Forestry Specialist. This position is being recruited at a statewide level to be stationed at one of our offices throughout the state.

This LTE – Forestry Specialist appointment is comprised of two 20-hour positions for an expected work schedule of 40 hours per week. See below for more information on the positions.

Position Summary: Forestry Specialist

The Department of Natural Resources has an excellent opportunity to be a part of sustainable management and protection of Wisconsin’s forestlands. The Division of Forestry is hiring multiple LTE Forestry Specialists stationed throughout the state! These positions will be located primarily in Ashland, Bayfield, Forest, Florence,Langlade, Oconto, Price, Rusk, Sawyer and Taylor Counties with potential additional work in other Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) Districts.

These positions will assist with the inventory, planning and implementation of forest management practices on Good Neighbor Authority- Program Revenue application on the CNNF National Forest lands through Good Neighbor Authority (GNA). The successful candidate will be responsible for performing many aspects of silvicultural prescription writing, data tracking, lead administration of Program Revenue projects, and forest reconnaissance work not associated with regular GNA assignments. The majority of the work is fieldwork with a complement of office follow-up reporting. Selected candidate must be able to drive a state vehicle. Candidates with three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years, or who have an OWI/DUI violation within the past year are barred from driving state vehicles.

50% – Lead administration of GNA contractors working on Program Revenue stand exam projects, including administration, quality control functions, and documenting contractor performance and progress.

20% – Work with WDNR National Forest Liaison to set up, organize, conduct or contract out Program Revenue projects for CNNF that would be assigned outside of GNA.

10% – Reconnaissance of National Forest stand attributes relating to silvicultural prescription writing. Collection, compiling and analysis of forest stand metrics including both field and office work.

10% – Completion of other assigned non-GNA timber stand analysis and post-sale activities required of GNA

10% – Writing Program Revenue Silvicultural prescriptions that meet all Forest Service National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) standards and guidelines.

Position Summary: Forester – Advanced

The Division of Forestry is hiring multiple LTE Forestry Specialists stationed throughout the state! These positions will be located primarily in Ashland, Bayfield, Forest, Florence,Langlade, Oconto, Price, Rusk, Sawyer and Taylor Counties with potential additional work in other CNNF Districts. The LTE Forester, under the general guidance of the Team Leader and National Forest Liaisons, will assist with the inventory, planning and implementation of forest management practices on Good Neighbor Authority application on the CNNF National Forest lands. The successful candidates will be responsible for performing many aspects of timber sales establishment, sale administration, and forest reconnaissance work. The majority of the work is fieldwork with a complement of office follow-up reporting. Selected candidate must be able to drive a state vehicle. Candidates with three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years, or who have an OWI/DUI violation within the past year are barred from driving state vehicles. This temporary position is anticipated to work 40 hours per week for approximately 6 months out of the year(1039 hours).

40% – Reconnaissance of National Forest stand attributes relating to silvicultural prescription writing. Collection, compiling and analysis of forest stand metrics. Field and office work.

40% – Assigned GNA timber stand establishment, timber sale administration and post-sale activities required of GNA stand fieldwork.

10% – Writing Silvicultural prescriptions that meet all Forest Service National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) standards and guidelines on the CNNF. A background in Silvicultural training and experience is required.

10% – Implement timber sale establishment on GNA assigned stands and on any other stands on CNNF that would be assigned outside of GNA
