The goal of this position is to protect Wisconsin’s water resources as well as human and environmental health by regulating discharges to lakes, streams, groundwater and wetlands via the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permit program. This position conducts compliance oversight of permittees using inspection policies and procedures established by the Water Quality Program. This position will travel to inspect and monitor wastewater discharges from permittees to assess the performance and compliance of municipal, industrial, and pretreatment facilities with WPDES permits, water quality standards, and state and federal regulations including the Clean Water Act. This position will also identify and communicate noncompliance and provide assistance to treatment facility operators and appropriate officials to achieve compliance. This position may also follow through on noncompliance using appropriate enforcement procedures and provide testimony in enforcement conferences and court cases.
