Dane County Department of Land and Water Resources

The Dane County Land and Water Resource Department (LWRD) is recruiting for several Limited Term Employees (LTEs) to join the County Park Maintenance Crew. This recruitment will be used to fill LTE County Park Maintenance Crew I positions. LTEs are limited to 1,200 hours in a payroll year and are not guaranteed any hours per week.

Examples of Duties

Duties include grounds maintenance, such as mowing, string trimming, tree trimming, planting and mulching, trail maintenance and snow removal. Duties also include facility repair and maintenance such as cleaning, washing, painting and assisting with building repairs. Operate and maintain commercial type mowers, trimmers, light and heavy-duty vehicles. Provide information and assistance to the public when approached in the field. Work schedule may require evening and weekend hours April – October.

Education, Training and Experience

Special Requirements

  • Completion of the Wisconsin ATV/OHM Safety Course preferred.

Background Check Statement

Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job’s responsibilities. Wisconsin’s Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Physical and Environmental Work Requirements

Ability to routinely lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Ability to do manual labor, including repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting. Ability to string trim for four (4) hours at a time. Work will be primarily outdoors in varying terrains in harsh temperature conditions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools that includes light and heavy duty vehicles, large driving mowers and various hand and power tools, including chainsaws. Ability to communicate tactfully with the public. Ability to work independently from oral and written directions.
