Weston Roundtable – An Independent Risk Analysis: Policy, Risks and Science of the Straits of Mackinac
Speaker: Guy Meadows, Robbins Professor of Sustainable Marine Engineering, Michigan Technological University
Lakes Michigan and Huron are hydraulically linked by The Straits of Mackinac. The combined Michigan–Huron system forms the largest lake in the world by surface area and the fourth largest by volume, containing nearly 8 percent of the world’s surface freshwater. Additionally, the Straits of Mackinac serve as a waterway for commercial shipping and a nexus for recreation, tourism, fishing (tribal and recreational) and as a conduit for petroleum transport. Professor Meadows will discuss the past, present and future policy, risks and science of the Straits of Mackinac.
