Weston Roundtable – Mobility Analytics Allows the Understanding of Recovery of Cities After Disasters and Pandemics

Speaker: Satish Ukkusuri, Professor, Lyles School of Civil Engineering, Purdue University

How do cities recover after major shocks such as disasters and pandemics? Prof. Ukkusuri will show how cell phone and social media data can reveal the recovery trajectories of businesses after major disasters in the US and Japan. Mobility analytics from the COVID-19 pandemic will be discussed with respect to economic recovery, effectiveness of control measures in place, and measurement and mitigation of inequities. The data-driven observations offer insights for novel models of the recovery of socio-technical complex systems and for policymaking.
