This photo depicts the waste that fills the Ganga River on the shores of Kolkata. A man can be seen trying to swim through the trash as well. People not only bathe in the river, but they also do laundry, gather water for drinking, and even use it as a bathroom. Recently, the Indian Prime Minister has set up the National Ganga River Basin Authority, which aims to have the river cleaned by the year 2020. The NGRBA has also received funding, in the form of nearly $2.96 million, from the World Bank in support of the clean-up for the river.
