Ganga

In this photo, a group of Indian people are bathing themselves in the Hooghly River on the banks of Kolkata. People who live in the slums don’t have a direct water supply, and must resort to bathing in the rivers and stream running throughout the city. These bodies of water are already being polluted by people experiencing the same issues further upstream. Many of these people are bathing themselves in water that’s already been polluted. Because of this, people get very ill, but must continue to use the water because they have no other options. It’s a difficult situation for those living in the slums.
