This image displays how sub-par infrastructure negatively affects the city of Kolkata. Because the pipes are not built to handle the strain they endure, occasionally they burst and spray massive quantities of water into the streets. In even worse situations, underground pipes burst and cause the whole street to cave in. Not only does this limit citizen’s access to water for periods of time, but it also costs the government hundreds of thousands of dollars. In addition, when a dilemma such as this occurs, streets flood and are closed for traffic. Poor infrastructure is yet another hindrance that residents of Kolkata must try to overcome in the process of accessing water.
