Biography: The goal of my research is to identify factors that influence adoption of environmental improvements in the building industry. Buildings use about 40% of primary energy in the U.S., and therefore are key to any long-term solutions for environmental challenges and climate change. Both new construction and on-going operations contribute heavily to demands for energy, water, and other natural resources. Technologies and strategies are available today that could significantly reduce these impacts, but barriers to rapid implementation exist. The Environment and Resources program provides opportunity to research these barriers, which span disciplines of public policy, law, business, and engineering.
