Zedler appointed associate director for research and education

University of Wisconsin-Madison professor of environmental studies Paul Zedler has been named associate director for research and education at the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.
Zedler has been an active and engaged member of the institute for more than 15 years. In addition to teaching classes, advising students and conducting research on plant ecology and conservation, he has served as chair of the Environment and Resources graduate program for the past four years.
He is also a member of the institute's Instructional Committee, Executive Committee and Governance Faculty, and he maintains a close relationship with the UW-Madison Arboretum, where he serves as a senior scientist and is active in their ongoing restoration efforts.
Lewis Gilbert, who served as the Nelson Institute's associate director since 2005, left in November to become managing director and chief operating officer at the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment.
