Conservation GIS

(Envir St 978, 3 credits)

This course explores the many uses of spatial data in the natural sciences, as well the many tools available for geographic information system (GIS) practitioners. Students will learn to evaluate and quantify landscape patterns, apply spatial thinking to species landscape needs, conduct habitat assessments, predict and examine environmental changes, and create useful and aesthetically pleasing maps. The course includes hands-on labs using ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and R.
