COURSE DESCRIPTION

It’s all online: a course about your backyard, golf course, garden, or field, and you can take if from anywhere. Earn three credits while away for the summer.
  
This course is an introduction to soil science with an orientation to environmental aspects. It is intended for non-soils majors in any discipline.
 
It fulfills L&S Credit Type C, and elective requirements of several majors.
   
The course learning goals are:

  • Understand basic principles of soil science that influence how this resource sustains and supports life (the ecosystem services that soils provide)
  • Understand how the properties and functions of soils are affected by human activities
  • Be able to describe policies, programs, projects, and other activities intended to protect and bolster the function of the soil resource
