Earth Day at 40: Valuing Wisconsin's Environmental Traditions, Past, Present and Future
The Fourth Annual Nelson Institute Earth Day Conference was a two-day event celebrating the twin anniversaries of Earth Day and the Nelson Institute. The conference revisited the popular movement that launched an era of environmental reform, surveyed a broad range of current environmental issues, and envisioned a more sustainable future.

2009

Wisconsin's Energy Future
The Third Annual Nelson Institute Earth Day conference was a one-day conference exploring emerging federal and state energy policies; opportunities to develop more home-grown energy resources such as biomass, wind and solar; strategies to create jobs in a sustainable economy; and many other topics.

2008

Sustaining Wisconsin's Environment & Economy: Responding to Climate Change
examined actions being taken in Wisconsin to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It explored the potential impacts of climate change and variability on our state and adaptation strategies that may be needed to protect our health, natural resources and economy.

The conference featured initiatives and programs designed to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, from the Governor's Task Force on Global Warming and Office of Energy Independence to private-sector innovations in industrial and agricultural processes, transportation, electric generation and energy conservation.

2007

Sustaining the Wisconsin Landscape: Biofuels Challenges and Opportunities
was a one-day conference that examined the potential conservation trade-offs associated with the transition to a bio-economy. This included some of the pros and cons of the current rapid expansion of ethanol, biodiesel and other biofuels from the state's working lands.
