Crosslisting a Course
To be considered for crosslisting by the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, a course must be approved as either (a) a course in the institute's undergraduate Environmental Studies Certificate Program OR (b) a core course in one of the institute's graduate programs.
To obtain approval to include a course in any of these programs, submit the following materials to the academic programs chair of the Nelson Institute:
- a letter justifying inclusion of the course as a Perspective Course, Fundamental Science Course, Breadth Course, or Integrative Course in the undergraduate certificate program OR as a core course in a specific Nelson Institute graduate program
- the catalog description of the course, and
- a course syllabus
Exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
If a course proposed for crosslisting does not meet the above conditions, an exception to this policy must be obtained from the academic programs chair. A request for an exception should be accompanied by a letter of justification for crosslisting. This justification should go beyond describing the salience of the proposed course, explaining how the course will advance the academic careers of Nelson Institute students. A syllabus should be attached to the letter of request.
The academic programs chair will evaluate these materials in a timely manner and, if needed, consult with members of the Instructional Committee or with the committees governing the Nelson Institute's undergraduate or graduate programs.
